Interview Questions

Here is a place to post your potential interview questions.  That way you can learn from each other and see how you are each approaching this assignment.

  1. I was thinking about starting with something like, "So how well do you feel your teachers know you? Is there an instance you can remember of an interaction that you had with a teacher that was not about academics? Do you feel like you can really be yourself around your teachers?"

  2. Here are some of the questions we discussed in class:

    • What classes have you been most successful in? (positive, what does work?)
    • Tell me what happens after you leave school in the afternoon.
    • Tell me about a time when you think you learned something. What did you learn, how did you learn it, why did you learn it?
    • How well do you think your teachers know you?
    • Tell me about the best learning experience you’ve had in school.
    • Who would you rather work with? A boy, a girl, why?
    • Are you on task in class because you are motivated to learn or because of your relationship with the teacher?
    • What do you like to read?
    • If I were to go to a cool website where would I go? What would I learn?
    • I’m in a class where I’m learning about learning. Tell me everything you know about what it means to learn.

  3. Ask them to tell stories:

Tell me about a time you connected with a teacher and learned in class, best learning teacher or experiences, why are you locking down this year as opposed to the past couple years, why is playing in the band so important to you?, when did you start playing in the band, why did you join?, why tuba?, what's your favorite part about school?, tell me everything you know what it means to learn?, why involved in extra-curricular?, learning learning, how to make learning better!? where's the real learning going on? name one thing you learned today in school. how did it make you feel?

  4. What does learning mean to you?
How do you know when you have learned something?
What, to you, should a teacher be?
Do you like to learn new concepts?
Tell me about a time you know you learned something.
Do you act different towards teachers and your friends? Do you think this affects the way you learn?
Do you wish teachers acted more like your friends?

  5. I'm not sure if this would work, but the other day I asked a student to teach me something. We were talking about a specific skill she has (putting her hair into a sock bun) and I didn't know the first thing about it. By putting her in the role of the 'teacher' she immediately started using techniques that I think that she really values as a learner. It was cool to flip roles even for a little bit and something that I might try to incorporate more into my classroom! By the end of our discussion I had my very own sock bun and a brand new hairstyle that I proudly wore throughout the rest of the day!
